Eyelid Surgery

Nowhere else on the face is the aging process crueler than around the eyes. Tired, sagging eyes can immediately change someones impression of you.

Eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) treats "hooding" and undereye bags that frequently cause a tired or aged appearance. Blepharoplasty is the removal of excessive, sagging or wrinkled skin around the upper eyelids and less commonly the lower eyelids. Additionly fat and muscle may be removed during eyelid surgery. The result is a more youthful, open-eyed and rested look.

Eyelid surgery is performed using local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. The procedure takes about 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours using an Ellman Radiofrequency Unit. Discomfort is minimal and patients usually return to work in less than one week.

Sometimes drooping eyelids are a sign of a drooping eyebrow. In this case Dr. Wasserman would consider performing a browlift with the Featherlift technique prior to consideration of eyelid surgery.

Other options to rejuvenate the area around the eyes include FAMI (facial autograft muscle injection) a form of fat injections to restore the eyebrows volume and projection or to correct the sunken appearance underneath the eyes. This is usually the preferred technique to fat removal from lower eyelid bags.

In cases of minimal to moderate lower eyelid excess skin, the wrinkles skin can usually be treated with periorbital laser resurfacing alone.
