"Soft Lift" (Curl Lift)
As the years go by, the forces of gravity
work on the muscular and subcutaneous tissues of the face
to displace them downwards. While the classic face lift has
always been an option for patients, we now find ourselves
in the era of "Soft Beautification". "Soft
Beautification" refers to cosmetic rejuvenation without
the risk or downtime of the knife and anesthesia. Dr. Wasserman
traveled to Europe to learn the "Soft Lift" (Curl
Lift) first hand from Drs. Pierre Fornier and Giorgio Fischer.
These two physicians, who are credited with being the fathers
of modern day liposculpture, have now turned their attention
to the "Soft Beautification" revolution.
The "Soft Lift" (Curl Lift)
is a minimally invasive face-lifting procedure that involves
the placement of special nylon threads in a loop fashion and
then pulling them upwards. The threads are placed with a needle
through a small incision in the hairline and then tensioned
according to the degree of suspension required. Threads can
easily be removed, added or changed. The entire procedure
is performed under local anesthesia, with most patients able
to return to work in 24 hours.

The "Soft Lift" (Curl Lift)
has been used for over 30 years as a cosmetic procedure. First
described in 1970 by Frenchman Rene Guillemain it was initially
called the "Curl Lift". Dr. Pierre Fornier still
refers to this procedure as the "Curl Lift", while
others use such names as the "Invisible Lift", "Suture
Suspension", "Thread Lift" and the "Soft
Lift". While somewhat similar in principle to the FeatherLift,
the "Soft Lift" (Curl Lift) is a more predictable
procedure whose results, while still subtle, are more noticeable.
The best candidates for the "Soft
Lift" (Curl Lift) are young to middle age patients who
are looking to lift their brows, or cheeks, or diminish jowl
formation. The "Soft Lift" (Curl Lift) will soften
nasolabial folds, as well as marionette lines. Those patients
who have already experienced a face lift may benefit from
the "Soft Lift" (Curl Lift) to restore the waning
results.
Complications and side effects are
mild and few due to the limited invasiveness of the procedure.
Dimples around the lower curl may be observed, but these are
easily fixed. Sometimes the skin above the suspension bunches
up. This almost always disappears in 1-3 weeks. Possible asymmetry
results can also occur, but are easily correctable.
Dr. Wasserman is the first physician in Arizona to be performing
the "Soft Lift" (Curl Lift). He frequently does
so in combination with other soft beautification procedures,
such as FAMI (Facial Autograft Muscle Injections) and Laser
procedures.
